Private Diplomatic Residence in Frankfurt am Main is seeking a temporary full-time appointment (48- hours per week) for an exciting opportunity to prepare for events, luncheons, and dinners for a lead diplomat in Frankfurt am Main. The employment relationship is for the express purpose of serving as Residence Manager / Chef to the diplomat during the duration of their assignment to Germany. Competitive compensation package!(EUR 54,432 Euros per year)

Position Description:

This is a mixed position, which combines the duties of a Residence Manager and a Chef. Incumbent is responsible for the smooth operation of an official U.S. Government Residence assigned to the Consul General.

Responsibilities:

Residence Manager Duties:

  • Serve as overall manager of the Consul General’s Residence (CGR), responsible for accurate tracking of expenses, proper use of space, and staff supervision (incl. time and attendance).
  • Track and report all expenses related to official and private events, ensuring that receipts are properly annotated.
  • Work with the Consul General or his/her designated representative to submit receipts for official expenses for reimbursement.
  • Act as liaison between the Protocol Office, the Management/Human Resources Office, the Regional Security Office and other offices of the Consulate General with the CGR.
  • Work with the Consul General’s Executive Assistant and Protocol Office concerning representational vouchers and ORE expenses, maintain expense ledgers, receipts and fills out representational as well as ORE worksheets for submission to the Consul General’s Office and Protocol Office.
  • Recruit and maintain a roster of waitstaff and kitchen staff to support events ranging in size from two (2) to two (200) hundred or more guests (e.g., seated lunches/dinners, buffet lunches/dinners, receptions, breakfasts/brunches, coffees/teas, etc.).
  • Deliver cash payments and secure receipts of payment for waitstaff at the end of each event and work with the Consul General’s designated representative to submit receipts for reimbursement.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of wine, liquor, and other items designated for official events.
  • Coordinate with the Consul General’s Executive Assistant and Protocol Assistant on scheduling events, residence use, and other events as necessary.
  • Manage a multi-story residence, working with a housekeeper for upkeep and maintenance.
  • Set tables and serve private as well as official meals.
  • Submit work orders for repairs, scheduling around official functions, and make sure a staff member is available on-site to facilitate entry and address questions.
  • Submit work orders for event set up and tear down at the residence.

Responsibilities:

Chef Duties:

In close coordination with the Consul General or his/her designated representative, plan menus for representational events as well as personal meals.

  • Prepare private and official meals for the Consul General and his/her family, which may consist of up to three meals per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
  • Prepare food and drinks for events ranging in size from two (2) to two (200) hundred or more guests (e.g., breakfast/brunch, coffees/teas, seated lunch/dinners, buffet lunch/dinners, receptions, teas, etc.).
  • Develop set menus at three different per-head costs for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktails/hors d’oeuvres.
  • May also prepare basic meals for the residence staff.
  • Responsible for all the food shopping.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and good sanitary practices of the work area.
  • Supervise assigned kitchen and waitstaff help during representational events.
  • Keep kitchen accounts as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Professional job-related vocational training as a Cook is required
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Chef or F&B Manager in a private residence, hotel, or restaurant is required
  • Experience overseeing a professional kitchen or restaurant, and experience catering large events is required
  • Dynamic, flexible, and adaptable; demonstrated creativity and ability to innovate; strong teamwork and good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organize and maintain a hygienic kitchen as well as food and beverage serving operations is required
  • English language level 3 (good working knowledge)
  • German language level 3 required (good working knowledge)
  • Ability to work with a budget and ability to “upgrade” a private meal to an officialone on last minute notice
  • Discretion is an absolute must
  • Must have driver’s license (Class B) for food shopping
  • Must have the unrestricted legal right to live and work in Germany
